Enrollment at The University of Alabama reached a record high of 38,645 for fall 2022, up from the previous record class of 38,563 in 2017. The record enrollment came in part from having largest freshman class in the University’s history with 8,037 students. The university also boasted one of its most diverse student bodies ever with a record enrollment of 8,542 students from ethnic and racial minority backgrounds.

The University of Alabama is a leader among public universities nationwide in the enrollment of National Merit Scholars with 1,088 currently enrolled. The freshman class brings with it 322 National Merit Scholars. In addition, UA has generated 62 Goldwater Scholars, 16 Rhodes Scholars, 16 Truman Scholars, 38 Hollings Scholars, and 17 Boren Scholars. The University of Alabama is also a top producer of Fulbright awards, having had 18 students awarded in the 2022/23 academic year.

The University of Alabama continues to be highly ranked in a number of programs in U.S. News and World Report’s annual college rankings and has done so for more than a decade.
